The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz today urged the contract status of Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah to be resolved as soon as possible.

The national women’s doubles pair, who rose to third on the world rankings this week, have yet to sign a new deal, six months after their initial agreement ended.

Here are three reasons why the pair should remain with the national association:

Focus & Clarity needed for both parties

Zafrul highlighted the importance of having certainty as he charts the new future of BAM. Key to that roadmap is the surety of Tan-Thinaah staying.

“It’s important for certainty. When things do not get resolved, it’s hard to focus 100 percent. We need to keep all our players within BAM,” said Zafrul, who also noted the pair are still getting paid by the national body eventhough their contracts have expired for six months now.

BAM have continued to support Tan-Thinaah despite their non-committal to a new agreement.

The players should also do their part and look to resolve the matter as soon as possible for the benefit of both parties, especially with a hectic competition calendar looming in the coming six months.

Tan-Thinaah & Rosman are a good combination

Rosman Razak, who rejoined BAM late last year as the national women’s doubles coach has done well to elevate the performance of Tan-Thinaah.

Since he started work last November, Rosman has gradually worked his methods into the players, and the results are showing.

This year, Tan-Thinaah have reached three finals and clinched the Thailand Open, also reaching two semi-finals.

Rosman also clarified that several strategies have paid off on-court. For this successful combination to remain, it is imperative that both shuttlers stay on.

Top training & support facility

In the past, shuttlers who turned professional always appreciated the facilities at the Academy Badminton Malaysia.

From the well-maintained, high-quality courts to the gym and personnel support, the national players have always been well taken care of.

Not forgetting the tournament logistics that happens all-year long which is sorted out for them, unlike the pros who would need to hire their own team, or do it themselves.

Zafrul has now also mandated an increase in funds for the players’ meals & nutrition at BAM.

“It might be a small thing, but if we are serious in being a world class organization creating world class athletes, we must pay attention to every little detail,” he said.
