Winter Olympics 2018: Webb places 68th in giant slalom

Jeffrey Webb kicked off his first Winter Olympics with a 68th-place finish in the men's giant slalom event on Sunday in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The 18-year-old, who was the first Malaysian to qualify for the Winter Olympics, was 78th after the first run with a time of 1:23.83 on the slopes of Yongpyong Alpine Center.

He improved his position by 10 places in the second run with an identical time of 1:23:84, becoming one of the 75 alpine skiers to complete the event.

With a combined total of 2:47:67, Webb finished 29.63 seconds behind winner Marcel Hirscher (2:18.04), his hero according to PyeongChang 2018's official website.

Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen (2:19:31) and France's Alexis Pinturault (2:19:35) completed the podium, while 2014 gold medallist Ted Ligety (2:21.25) finished ninth.

Webb will continue his participation at PyeongChang 2018 in the men's slalom event on Thursday.
