ONE Championship’s Amir Khan gets a hero’s welcome whenever he walks down the ramp to the ONE Circle in the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Before the Singaporean athlete puts on a show for the fans, however, he rocks to the rhythm of his entrance theme – “Starboy.”

Khan is hooked to the chorus of the smash hit by Canadian singer The Weeknd. After all, he’s heard this familiar tune many times and has only fond memories whenever it plays.
“This is a really important song for me,” the 25-year-old said. “I feel I connect with that song a lot because I have many memories, not just fight memories.”
It reminds the Evolve representative of the poignant encounters he had of his wife, Cristina when they first met.
“When I first met my wife, we kind of talked and we realized our favorite song was ‘Starboy’ at the same time,” Khan said.
Even so, Khan admits the tune was already a regular favorite during his bachelor days.
“I used to go out a lot, and every time when I was at the club, the DJ would play ‘Starboy’ when I came in,” Khan recalled. “I remember having a lot of fun with that song during nights out.”
The music video for “Starboy” has been described by The Weeknd as an ode to shedding a decadent lifestyle for a new way of living.
While Khan does not have any strong feelings about the true meaning behind the song, he believes it communicates confidence in the way he lives his life, regardless of how others deem it.
“The song is basically a reminder that you don’t need to apologize for who you are. Live your life first,” Khan said. “But you also need the consciousness to understand what you need to change. That is a form of confidence and strength.”
It’s the same confidence that resonates with Khan whenever he hears “Starboy’” play in arenas as he walks to the ring.
“When I walk out to a fight, I always play that song,” Khan said. “That particular song, when I hear it, it just gives me a boost of confidence and it connects to me a lot.”
