Warrington Wolves held firm to edge a thriller against Huddersfield Giants 26-24 and book a place in the Super League play-offs, with two late Danny Brough misses from the tee costing the visitors.

The hosts knew that a victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium would book a spot in the last four.

Such a scenario was not a given at half-time as the in-form Giants led by two points, with Jake Mamo crossing three times to counter scores from Bryson Goodwin and Ryan Atkins.

But Stefan Ratchford and Tom Lineham each scored, while Goodwin's second after Lee Gaskell responded for Huddersfield had the home side leading by six.

Joe Wardle pounced on Gaskell's grubber kick with three minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish, but Brough failed to convert and then missed a lengthy penalty on the buzzer as the Giants fell short.

The fifth-place Giants can now no longer catch Wire with just three games of the Super 8s to play.

Castleford Tigers, who had all but secured their own spot with a 36-4 battering of Catalans Dragons last time out, are also sure of a play-off berth after Greg Eden scored twice in 28-8 triumph at Hull FC.

Last season's Grand Finalists are three points behind second-placed Wigan Warriors and still retain hope of a home semi-final.
