Vince Tyra has been named the acting athletic director at the University of Louisville in the wake of AD Tom Jurich being placed on administrative leave.

Tyra is the son of Louisville basketball great Charlie Tyra, who set multiple records with the Cardinals in the 1950s. He is one of just four players in school history to have his jersey number (8) retired by the school. The younger Tyra is a graduate of Kentucky, but he currently is the chairman of the finance committee of the University of Louisville Foundation.

Tyra will be the acting AD in the short-term as the school decides what to do with Jurich, who was suspended with pay following the revelation that the basketball program was allegedly involved in the pay-for-play scandal that rocked the NCAA last week.

"It's been a difficult week," Tyra said in a news conference Tuesday of the allegations. "It's time for our fan base to dig in deeper and be more supportive in any way they can."

The school voted unanimously to fire head coach Rick Pitino Tuesday but took no action with Jurich Monday according to WDRB.
