Drexel overcame a 34-point first-half deficit Thursday night to defeat Delaware, 85-83, to set the men's NCAA Division I record for largest comeback victory.

The Blue Hens led 53-19 with 2:36 to play in the opening half.

"I told them, just get a stop, there's no 30-point shot, 20-point shot, 15-point shot," Drexel coach Zach Spiker told ESPN. "Let's just be poised here. We turned up the tempo, made it more full-court. Let's make it a crazy game."

Here are three fun facts about the Dragons' record comeback:

1. It was a matter of streaks and stops.

Drexel began the second half with an 18-4 run, then added a 17-4 run after Delaware pushed its lead back to 16 halfway through the second half.

Drexel guard Tramaine Isabell — who scored or assisted on 38 second-half points — credited his coaches: "They just kept screaming at us at timeouts, whatever the run was … 17-2, 8-0. After you hear that a couple times, you (start thinking), 'We were just down 25 points seven minutes ago, maybe this is possible,' and we just made history."

The Dragons got back in the game with defensive pressure, forcing eight of Delaware’s 12 turnovers in the second half.

2. The winning points came at the free-throw line

Isabell was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds to play on Drexel's final possession. He made two of the three free throws to secure the win.

"I just felt like, I don't know, I didn't believe it," Isabell said of the comeback. "That's something amazing to be part of. I can't imagine having a team down 34 and making us believe we could come back."

After allowing 56 points in the first half, Drexel scored exactly that amount in the second half to earn the improbable win.

“It’s not the best record to break,” said Troy Harper (via Philly.com), drawing laughter when asked about his team’s place in history. “It is a great feeling, we did it, but nobody wants to ever to do it again. It was fun, but nobody wants to go down 30 and fight back and win.”

3. Drexel passed some elite programs for the record.

According to the NCAA, the previous largest comeback in D-I history was 32 points in 1950, when Duke rallied past Tulane, 74-72, after being down 54-22 in the first half. Kentucky's 31-point comeback against LSU in 1994 was the second-largest.

"We always say, 'It's a great day to be a Dragon,'" Spiker said. "We said, 'It's a great day for a comeback.'"
