Golden point extra-time and shot clocks will be introduced to Super League this year, but the addition of a second referee in matches has been deferred.

It was announced on New Year's Day that two five-minute periods will follow games that are level at full-time, and the two sides will have to settle for a draw if there is no further score in that period.

Shot clocks will be installed at the 12 grounds that regularly stage top-flight matches, aimed at reducing the number and length of stoppages.

Teams will be penalised if they fail to scrum down in 35 seconds or take longer than 30 seconds for a drop-out, with sanctions also coming in to prevent players taking in excess of 80 seconds for a kick at goal.

Clubs gave their backing for a second referee to officiate matches, but that will only be trialled in 2019.
