St Helens produced a late fightback to beat Wakefield Trinity 34-30 as Hull FC consigned Widnes to a 12th successive Super League defeat on Friday.

Saints were pushed all the way by Wakefield, but the leaders just about did enough to stretch their lead over second-placed Wigan Warriors to six points with a 10th consecutive win in all competitions.

Mark Percival laid on the opening try for winger Regan Grace as Justin Holbrook's men led 20-6 at half-time following further scores from Jonny Lomax and Danny Richardson.

Tom Johnstone had capitalised on sloppy play from Saints to score Wakefield's only try of the first half and the visitors crossed four times in the space of 18 second-half minutes to hit the front.

After Ryan Hampshire touched down just after the interval, Jacob Miller reeled in his own kick to score and when Mason Caton-Brown went over from dummy half, Saints were in a spot of bother.

Johnstone completed a double and the Wildcats would have been 10 points up but for a couple of missed conversions from Liam Finn.

Hoever, tries from Grace, James Roby and Zeb Taia in quick succession put Saints back in front, ensuring a superb finish in the corner from Reece Lyne came too late for Wakefield.

Warrington Wolves moved up to third spot with a 30-14 defeat of Salford Red Devils.

Tom Lineham, Josh Charnley and Ben Westwood were among the six Warrington try-scorers in a comfortable victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

There was yet more misery for bottom side Widnes as they went down 31-24 at Hull FC, while second-bottom Hull KR thrashed Huddersfield Giants 37-10 - Adam Quinlan and Ryan Shaw scoring two tries apiece.
