Agent Rich Paul revealed his client Davis – who was drafted by New Orleans with pick one in 2012 – wanted to be traded on Monday, sparking an NBA investigation.

"Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship," Paul told ESPN.

"Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that's the reason for informing them of this decision now. That's in the best interests of both Anthony's and the organisation's future."

Davis is having a career-year for New Orleans – the 25-year-old is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

The star is sidelined with a finger injury. The Pelicans are not planning to move Davis before the February 7 trade deadline unless they are "offered an overwhelming package" for him, according to reports.
