No. 2 Arizona's Thanksgiving week has not been a joyful experience, and it got even worse Friday with an 89-64 loss to No. 18 Purdue.
The loss was Arizona's third straight, all at the Battle for Atlantis in the Bahamas. The Wildcats are playing without star guard Rawle Alkins — out 8-to-12 weeks with a fractured foot — and no one has stepped up in his place.

The Boilermakers were fresh off two disappointing losses themselves — against Tennessee and Western Kentucky — but Dakota Mathias scored 24 points and Carsen Edwards added 22 points to help Purdue earn a big win.
Purdue jumped out to a 50-32 halftime lead, scoring easy buckets on Arizona's almost non-existent defense. Four Boilermakers reached double-figures Friday, leading to a consistent barrage of offensive pressure.
Arizona has now allowed 90 and 89 points in a three-day span, after allowing no worse than 85 points all last season. Freshman center DeAndre Ayton has been a force this season, and he added 22 points with eight rebounds against Purdue. But team leader Alonzo Trier scored just eight points.
For Purdue, this was a huge momentum boost. A disappointing start to the tournament was somewhat swept away by a dominant win over the Wildcats. Arizona, on the other hand, has some serious questions to ask after another rough performance.
