NBA trade rumors: Pelicans want to be 'overcompensated' by Lakers to deal Anthony Davis by deadline

New Orleans wants to be "compensated — perhaps even overcompensated" to trade Davis before the offseason, according to a report from ESPN which cites unidentified league sources.

The report states the Pelicans have not countered any of the Lakers' offers for Davis yet, but they expect Los Angeles president of basketball operations Magic Johnson to come back with an even bigger offer.

That means New Orleans is looking for four first- and second-round picks as part of the deal, according to ESPN. That is in addition to some version of a package Los Angeles already offered that included four players and the taking on of Solomon Hill and his contract for relief to the Pelicans.

Los Angeles is reportedly going after Davis much harder this year than it did in years past with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, who both expressed interest in being traded to the Lakers, but were ultimately dealt to other teams.

The Pelicans reportedly do not want to trade Davis until the offseason as the Celtics have urged them to wait. Boston really wants to acquire Davis, and the Pelicans believe it would offer draft picks as well as a young player who some believe could be Jayson Tatum, according to ESPN's report.

New Orleans also reportedly believes the Lakers' offer made before the deadline will be available again this offseason and it could be the starting point for other bids to be made, according to ESPN.
