With five laps remaining in the Apache Warrior 400 at Dover on Sunday, it looked like Chase Elliott was finally going to end a 69-race winless streak to begin is career. 

Kyle Busch had other plans. 

The Son of Hall of Famer Bill Elliott, and heir to Jeff Gordon at Hendrick Motorsports, lead 59 of the final 61 laps in the first cutoff race of the postseason, but Busch was able to get by the No. 24 with two laps remaining and hang on for his second straight victory.

Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman and Austin Dillon failed to advance in the playoffs as the 16-driver field was reduced to 12 following the race. 

Jimmie Johnson finsihed Sunday's race in third, followed by Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson. 

After another three races (Oct. 22 at Kansas), four more drivers will be eliminated based on points, and then again at Phoenix November 12 until four drivers remain. 

All points except playoff points will be reset before the Round of 12 begins next Sunday at Charlotte, and then again before the Round of 8. The Championship 4 drivers will race straight up at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the title.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., making his final appearance as a full-time driver at the Monster Mile, finished seventh, his best finish since fifth at Texas earlier this season. Junior has yet to win a race in his final season and will look to next Sunday's race at Charlotte to end the streak.
