Sohrab Moradi broke a weightlifting snatch record that had stood for 19 years in a gold medal-winning performance at the Asian Games in Jakarta.

The Iranian, competing in the men's 94 kilograms category, lifted 189kg to better Akakios Kakiasvilis' successful attempt at 188kg in 1999, which had been weightlifting's longest-standing world record.

Moradi then lifted 221kg in the clean and jerk to give him an Asian Games-record total of 410kg.

The 29-year-old, who won gold at the Olympics two years ago, now has the world records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total weight for his weight category.
