Minnesota Lynx star Sylvia Fowles named WNBA MVP

The WNBA announced Lynx center Sylvia Fowles was named the league's MVP.

It is the first time Fowles has won the award after she earned 35 of 40 first-place votes and 385 points from a national panel of writers and broadcasters.

She had a vast lead over runner-up Tina Charles of the New York Liberty (three first-place votes and 199 points) and Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker (2, 132).

Fowles, 31, helped the Lynx to a 27-7 record and averaged 18.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

She will receive the award before Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals, when the Lynx take on the Mystics.
