David Padgett is expected to be named interim coach at Louisville for this season while the school seeks a long-term replacement for Rick Pitino, WDRB reported Friday.
Interim university president Greg Postel told reporters Friday morning that he expected to name an interim coach later in the day and an interim athletic director next week.

Longtime coach Pitino and AD Tom Jurich were placed on leave earlier this week after the school was implicated in a federal investigation for allegedly funneling $100,000 to a recruit.
Padgett, 32, was set to enter his second year as a full-time assistant on Pitino's staff after being promoted from director of basketball operations following the 2015-16 season. Padgett joined Pitino's staff in the spring of 2014 and was originally set to serve as assistant video coordinator, but was promoted to DBO after Andre McGee left for an assistant coach job at Missouri-Kansas City.
By that point, McGee had already set the dominoes that would lead to Pitino's ouster in motion by paying for strippers to attend on-campus parties with Louisville players and recruits, but news of that scandal didn't break until October 2015. Pitino would survive that public relations mess, but not the one that emerged this week.
Padgett spent three years as an assistant at IUPUI before returning to Louisville, where he played under Pitino from 2005-08 after spending his freshman season at Kansas.
