Malaysian Liverpool fan club KL Kopites wrote themselves into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for displaying the most number of Liverpool jerseys on Wednesday.

Held at the iM4U Sentral in Puchong, Selangor, a total of 1278 jerseys, ranging from year 1966 to the current season, was put on display in the presence of MBOR representatives, Malaysian football legend Santokh Singh, and the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) head of referee unit, Haji Kassim Kadir Bacha.

"We wanted to attempt something that was never done before and came up with the idea sometime ago," said club secretary Thevindra Raj, who personally contributed around 25 jerseys for the record.

"When we contacted the Malaysia Book of Records to check if there was anyone who did something similar before, we found out that the closest was a Fernando Torres fan who collected jerseys of him, so we knew we could be the first one to involve a football club.

"We actually aimed to display 1000 jerseys, but it exceeded our target because many fans wanted to be part of it and were delivering their own collections up to this morning."

When quizzed about the possibility of losing the record to other fan club someday, Thevindra was not bothered by it.

"Other clubs are more than welcome to beat our record, but we will always be the first one to do it," he jokingly added.

"We do it out of our love and passion for Liverpool, and we hope that it will inspire and encourage other fan clubs."
