Anthony Joshua claims he would stop fellow British heavyweight Joe Joyce in the first round if they went head to head in the ring.

Joshua had been due to fight Oleksandr Usyk after activating his rematch clause, having lost his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles to the Ukrainian last September, but that contest is now in doubt after Usyk returned to his native country following Russia's invasion.

It was suggested during a Q&A on Twitter that fellow British heavyweight Joyce would be a suitable alternative opponent for Joshua, who said he stopped Joyce in one round when they previously met.

Otto Wallin's promoter Dmitry Salita had also put the Swedish fighter's name forward, but Joshua dismissed the chances of either man against him, pointing to their contests at amateur level.

In answer to a question about Joyce, the 32-year-old wrote: "'Rolls Eyes' You really think I wouldn't fight @JoeJoyceBoxing?"

He followed up a further question about Wallin, adding: "Lol OK. I've shared this ring with most people you see in the heavyweight division today! I boxed Otto Wallin twice as youngsters and I boxed Joe and stopped him in one round. I'd do the same thing today! Ain't nothing changed."

Joyce is undefeated in 13 professional fights, with 12 knockouts, while Wallin is 23-1 in his career in the paid ranks, with 14 knockouts to his name

Joshua also agreed with a fan who said fighting more often might help his career, responding: "Agreed! Winning the heavyweight championships in my 16th fight was a gift and a curse! It stopped my progression as an active fighter!"

He also addressed a question about being "scared" to fight Deontay Wilder, quote-tweeting a post from Wilder from 2020 where the American said he turned down "more money" to fight Joshua in order to go up against Tyson Fury.

"Need I say more?" Joshua wrote. "Let's put this 'AJ ducked' saga to rest. I respect Wilder, he's a good fighter. He just wasn't ready to fight me! If you don't believe me, see below."
