Bryson Goodwin scored five tries as Warrington Wolves rebounded from their Challenge Cup disappointment by tearing injury-hit Hull FC apart for an 80-10 win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Former New Zealand international centre Goodwin more than doubled his tally for the season – which now stands at nine – as Warrington ran in 14 tries to inflict Hull's heaviest Super League defeat.

Five days after going down 20-14 to Catalans Dragons at Wembley on Saturday, Josh Charnley took less than three minutes to give the home fans something to cheer with the first of his two tries.

Fetuli Talanoa hit back for Hull – who were without seven key players including Albert Kelly, Jake Connor and Marc Sneyd – but a double from Toby King, a Jack Hughes score and Goodwin's first two efforts sent the Wolves into half-time with a resounding 34-6 lead.

There was no let-up from Steve Price's side after the restart, with Goodwin collecting Daryl Clark's kick to complete his hat-trick and adding another in the 46th minute.

Josh Griffin got on the board for Hull but the momentum remained firmly with the hosts, who saw Joe Philbin, Tom Lineham, Stefan Ratchford and Tyrone Roberts – also the scorer of 12 successful conversions – cross before Goodwin touched down at the death.

"The boys put me in the right positions, I was just lucky to get across. We wanted to bounce back from the disappointment of last week and we did that," Goodwin told Sky Sports.

"It was very disappointing last week, we weren't happy with how we played but we were happy to have the short turnaround and the chance to get ourselves right for the upcoming fixtures."

Hull have now lost seven Super League matches in succession and captain Danny Houghton admitted after their latest defeat they are in a "dark place".
