Gold Coast 2018: Malaysia all but out of men's hockey semi-finals

The Malaysia national men's hockey team stood little chance of reaching the semi-finals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after losing to 2-1 to India today.

Harmanpreet Singh netted two penalty corner goals in between a Faizal Saari effort to secure India's win and spot in the semi-finals.

As for the Speedy Tigers, with one win and two losses in three games, they are now one point behind second-place England, who have a game in hand against Wales today, in Pool B.

A win for England will seal Malaysia's fate, regardless of the result of their final Pool B match against Pakistan on Wednesday.

Malaysia have not reached the men's semi-finals since Melboure 2006 when they claimed a bronze medal finish.

Meanwhile, their women's counterpart also failed to qualify for the semi-finals after losing to England 3-0 yesterday.

They are now at the bottom of Pool A with one point from three games.
