Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA) chief executive Clint Newton feels a May 28 resumption for the NRL is not definite, saying there were still "hurdles" to get over.
Australian Rugby League (ARL) commissioner Wayne Pearce said on Wednesday that a return on May 28 was "definite", with clubs set to resume training on May 4.

However, Newton played down those comments, saying there was still work to be done before a return date could be locked in amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"We've always maintained our position is that we want to get the players back to training and back on the field provided that it's safe to do so," he told 2GB on Thursday.
"But I think following some comments late yesterday, I think we've got a responsibility to the fans and the players, clubs, major sponsors, to ensure that when we're speaking about return dates that they're true and accurate and at the moment there is no definite start date of either training or playing. They're dates that we're working towards.
"The reality is that we've got a number of hurdles that we've got to still get over between now and the fourth and even the 28th."
Newton said questions over both interstate and international travel – involving New Zealand Warriors – still needed to be answered.
But he also wants to ensure players have the appropriate medical facilities, with New South Wales to potentially be a hub for the competition.
"The other thing that we need is confirmation that players will have access to the appropriate medical facilities and services should they be injured or require treatment," Newton said.
"And, the health and safety and biosecurity protocols and protections for players and that hasn't deviated from our position from several weeks ago."
Australia has reported more than 6,600 cases of coronavirus, including 75 deaths.
