Bernal discharged from hospital after suffering bleed on the brain

Egan Bernal has been discharged from hospital and will rest for at least three weeks after suffering a bleed on the brain in a crash during the Clasica San Sebastian.

The 21-year-old was among several riders involved in a big collision 19 kilometres from the end of the 228.7km one-day race on Saturday.

Promising Team Sky rider Bernal, who supported Geraint Thomas superbly in his maiden Tour de France triumph, underwent surgery to repair his top lip and reduce a nasal fracture.

The Colombian also suffered a bleed on the brain and requires dental surgery to repair missing, broken and fractured teeth.

Team Sky said in a statement: "Egan will rest completely for at least three weeks after also suffering a small bleed on the brain during the crash. 

"The young Colombian will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team and we will bring you updates as he continues his recovery."
