Asian Games: Qabil Ambak ends 25-year wait for equestrian gold medal
Malaysian equestrian ace Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil finally won an elusive gold medal at the Asian Games as he came in first in the individual dressage event in Hangzhou, China, on Thursday.
The 43-year-old, who made his Asian Games debut in 1998, scored 75.780 points with long-time horse Rosenstolz to beat 2014 winner Jacqueline Siu (73.450 points) of Hong Kong and India’s Anush Agarwalla (73.030 points).
Qabil had won three silver and four bronze medals from his five previous Asian Games outings.
It was also Malaysia’s second gold medal in Hangzhou and first-ever equestrian gold medal in Asian Games history.
