Nur Shazrin Latif delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal of the 2022 Asian Games at the Ningbo Xiangshan Sailing Centre on Wednesday.
Ahead of the final race of the women’s singles dinghy (ILCA6) event, the 25-year-old competitive sailor was leading the pack with net points of 25 and already secured a medal finish.
However, due to no wind, she won the contest by default, improving on her result from the 2018 edition where she clinched bronze in Indonesia.
Hong Kong’s Stephanie Louise Norton and Singapore’s Victoria Chan finished second and third respectively.
On top of the honour, Nur Shazrin also qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Her success increased the national sailing contingent’s medal haul to three, after Asnawi Iqbal Adam and Tengku Nurani Ezaty Tengku Khairudeen claimed two bronze medals on Tuesday.
