Ange Postecoglou has warned there is no "magic cure" to Tottenham's dismal form as they prepare to visit relegation-threatened Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tottenham slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in Wednesday's north London derby – their fifth straight Premier League game without a victory.

They are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top eight, and while cup victories over Liverpool and Tamworth have inspired hope that their long wait for a major trophy could end this campaign, their chances of making Europe through the league look slim.

Asked how he would look to improve Spurs' fortunes, Postecoglou told reporters: "You've got no choice. There's no magic cure.

"You've got to get up tomorrow, work hard and go into Sunday and prepare to go into battle and turn around our fortunes and our season.

"There's nothing magical that's going to change it. There are always reasons for all these things to happen.

"The reality is that our results and our form in the league has been nowhere near good enough. That needs to change."

Everton, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa in David Moyes' first game back at the helm on Wednesday, and they are balanced precariously above the relegation zone.

The Toffees missed several clear chances to take something from that game, and Moyes knows it will take time for their attacking returns to improve.

"It'll take more than a few days for me to really see that. I think Sean Dyche saw it over a long time," Moyes said after the Villa game.

"We try to encourage the players to play forward, try to punish Villa, deliver good balls into the box. We threatened and got in behind once or twice."

Asked about the reception he received on his return to Merseyside, he said: "I am incredibly lucky and fortunate to come back here. I know what it means to the supporters.

"I am still keeping my head down a bit as I want us to win and I want to enjoy celebrating with them. But while we are in this position and losing, I am a bit meek at the moment."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Everton – Dominic Calvert Lewin

Since the start of November, Everton are the lowest scorers in the Premier League with just five goals in 11 games, and two of those were Craig Dawson own goals in a 4-0 win over Wolves.

They have failed to net in 12 games this season, becoming one of only four teams to do so in their opening 20 games of a campaign in the competition, along with Norwich City in 2021-22 (14), Southampton in 2003-04 (12) and Derby County in 2007-08 (12).

Calvert-Lewin has now failed to score in 16 straight league games, and his form must improve if Moyes' men are to steer clear of danger.

Tottenham – Son Heung-min

Tottenham captain Son has been involved in 10 goals in his 12 Premier League starts against Everton, scoring seven and assisting three.

MATCH PREDICTION – DRAW

Like Spurs, Everton have started 2025 with back-to-back Premier League defeats. The Toffees have lost three straight games to start a calendar year on six previous occasions, most recently in 2022 and 2023.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have only done so twice in their history (in 1993 and 1994), and while cup victories over Liverpool and Tamworth have given supporters hope of silverware, their miserable league form has put Postecoglou under scrutiny.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League trips to Goodison, though they have drawn eight times during that run (three wins).

They are targeting their first league double over the Toffees since 2017-18, having won 4-0 in the reverse fixture in August.

Everton versus Tottenham at Goodison, meanwhile, is the most drawn specific fixture in Premier League history, with 17 of the 32 meetings finishing level.

Each of the last five such meetings have been drawn, with no exact fixture ever finishing level six times in a row in Premier League history, so we could see a competition first on Sunday.
