Andrew Cole thinks the quality of games between Manchester United and Liverpool has dropped in recent years.
The Red Devils will renew their rivalry with Jurgen Klopp's team at Old Trafford on March 10 as both teams aim to keep up with runaway leaders Manchester City.
The match will also be shown live at the club's #ILoveUnited fan party in Kuala Lumpur, featuring special appearances of former players Dwight Yorke, Denis Irwin and David May.
Goals might not be plentiful, though, as when both sides met at Anfield last October, the match finished 0-0, while last season's Old Trafford encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, which might lead to Cole's opinion.
"[The rivalry] has dwindled a little due to the quality of the games," said the ex-United striker when quizzed by StadiumAstro.com.
"There seems to be fewer goals scored, and that is the nature of the game at the moment."
However, he insisted despite the drop in quality, the match is still important for everyone involved.
"I think the rivalry is still there amongst the fans with the two cities being so close together, and it is one of those games where you just don’t know what is going to happen," he added.
"With City playing so well and being right on our doorstep, it means that [the Manchester] rivalry has taken over, but [the North West derby] will still be a really important game for the players and the fans."
