'I've never had to do so many' – Moyes says Everton need six more signings

David Moyes believes Everton need to make as many as six new signings, claiming this is the busiest transfer window he has ever experienced as a manager.

Everton completed a £27m (€30m) deal for Villarreal forward Thierno Barry earlier this month, while they have also acquired Mark Travers as a backup goalkeeper and made Carlos Alcaraz's loan move from Flamengo permanent.

The Toffees are closing in on a deal for Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou, but Moyes claimed at an event in New York on Friday that they need up to 10 signings in total.

Moyes has seen five senior players – including key men Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure – depart since the end of 2024-25, while his team's pre-season preparations have got off to an inauspicious start.

They drew 1-1 with Accrington Stanley and lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers before travelling to the United States for a three-game tour, which started with Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Speaking after that game, Moyes was asked if he stood by his comments about needing up to 10 new arrivals.

"Well, we've signed three, so if you take that off, we're still in need of maybe five or six players," Moyes said. "That's what we have to try and do.

"I've never had one of these times. In the past, I have had to sign a lot of players, but I've never had to do so many in one window."

Everton were without starting centre-backs James Tarkowski and Jarrod Branthwaite against Bournemouth, with the former yet to recover from a hamstring issue that ended his 2024-25 campaign and the latter nursing a minor injury.

Asked about Everton's move for 19-year-old Aznou, who was a regular for Real Valladolid while on loan in LaLiga last season, Moyes said: "We have made an offer.

"Whether it's accepted and whether it's all done, he's a young player. It's someone we see as having a good future and good potential."
