Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold previously confirmed he would be leaving Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

It was widely expected he would be signing for Madrid, but rather than wait to bring in the full-back on a free transfer, Los Blancos have paid Liverpool a fee in order to get the 26-year-old on board ahead of the Club World Cup, which starts on June 14.

Madrid have reportedly paid £10million for the England international, who becomes the second signing for new boss Xabi Alonso, following the arrival of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.

Alexander-Arnold has signed a six-year deal at Madrid.

Liverpool are expected to replace Alexander-Arnold with Jeremie Frimpong, who was an integral player for new Madrid boss Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool with 354 appearances under his belt in all competitions, having played a key role in two Premier League title triumphs and the Reds' 2019 Champions League success.

No other defender in Premier League history has provided as many assists in the competition as Alexander-Arnold (64).

He has recorded 82 goal contributions in the Premier League, trailing only Leighton Baines (85) among defenders.

Madrid finished second in LaLiga this season, failing to win any of the domestic trophies on offer while also losing to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.

They face Al-Hilal, Pachuca and Salzburg in their group matches at the Club World Cup.
