Taipei Open: Zii Jia joins Justin in Round 2 after comeback win

Lee Zii Jia came from a game down to book a second-round berth at the Taipei Open on Wednesday on a day where national men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh also impressed.

Hoh was first to seal his spot in the last-16 after beating Indonesia’s young talent Zaki Ubaidillah 21-14, 15-21, 21-11 in 55-minutes.

The 22-year-old looked nervous in the second game which he conceded easy points at the end, but came back renewed in the deciding game to secure the comfortable victory.

Hoh will face another Indonesian Prahdiska Shujiwo on Thursday.

Lee, who played in the later match, came from a game down to beat Chinese Taipei’s Liao Jhuo-Fu 22-24, 21-12, 21-15.

The world number 53 had done well to save three game points and be within touching distance of taking the lead, but ended up losing the first game.

Credit to Lee, the 28-year-old returned with a much more aggressive style to secure both the next games.

Lee’s defence also looked on point, and he displayed good determination to get to shuttles by throwing himself to the far ends of the court.

His reward is a grand second round fixture, either against former world number two Anthony Ginting or All-England defending champion Lin Chun-yi.
