Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin have created history for Malaysia at the World Tour.
By winning the Indonesia Open title on Sunday, they have become the first Malaysians to win two Super 1000 titles.
The Malaysians achieved their first Super 1000 success at the 2024 China Open, before creating history at the famed Istora Senayan venue by taming home favourites Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin 13-21, 21-18, 21-10 on Sunday.
The only other Malaysian to have won a Super 1000 title is Lee Zii Jia when he triumphed at the 2021 All-England.
While the great Lee Chong Wei had won many tournaments of this level, the former national shuttler did so in the Super Series era, before the introduction of the World Tour in 2018.
Winning the Indonesia Open also speaks volumes about the endurance of Goh-Izzuddin, who on Sunday competed in their 17th match in a month.
Competing in four consecutive events did not diminish the quality from this pair, who first reached the Thailand Open (Super 500) semi-finals on May 16, before going on make the final of the Malaysia Masters (Super 500) a week later.
They continued to play well and made the Singapore Open (Super 750) quarter-finals, before finishing off with a deserved victory in Indonesia.
The world number eight have now won their second title of the year in Indonesia, having also won the Indonesia Masters title back in January.
Goh-Izuddin’s results are expected to bump them to sixth on the world rankings.
