Malaysia made history on the World Tour on Sunday after three pairs – Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin all triumphed at the Indonesia Masters final.

Securing three silverwares in a single tournament meant for the first time ever, Malaysia achieved their biggest ever haul from a World Tour event since it was introduced back in 2018.

In fact, it has been 17-years since Malaysian shuttlers returned with three titles from a single top-tier event.

This dates back to 2009 when Lee Chong Wei, his wife Wong Mew Choo and women’s doubles pair Wong Pei Tty-Chin Ee Hui bagged three titles at the Super Series Masters Finals in Johor Bahru which is equivalent to the current World Tour Finals.

A year prior, Malaysian shuttlers also secured a hat-trick of titles at the 2008 Super Series Masters Finals in Sabah through Lee, Wong-Chin and men’s doubles Koo Kien Kiat-Tan Boon Heong.

It is worth noting that both those events were held in Malaysia, and for the current contingent to triumph at the boisterous Istora Senayan venue where fans’ support can influence a match is something unique and special.

Malaysia’s last big return from a top-level World Tour event came at last year’s Thailand Open, when Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Tan-Thinaah triumphed to secure two titles.

At the Indonesia Masters final, Chen-Toh overcame Danish pair Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje 15-21, 21-17, 21-11 to win the mixed doubles final, while Goh-Izzuddin tamed Indonesian pair Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin 21-19, 21-13 for the men's doubles silverware.

Tan-Thinaah were given a walkover victory to secure the women’s doubles crown after one of their opponents was declared not match fit.

Winning three silverwares in a single tournament, so early in the season gives the Malaysian contingent a massive boost ahead of upcoming assignments, especially in top-tier events such as this Super 500 competition.
