Lee Chong Wei Cup drives home strong 'Anti-Bullying' message

The on-going Lee Chong Wei Cup (LCWC) is driving home a key message to all its participants: Bullying is not good and everyone in sports must learn to be kinder to each other at all times.

There is a massive Anti-Bullying & Safe Sports wall situated at the tournament venue at Stadium Juara where players, coaches, parents and visitors can write messages to eradicate bullying as well as to support each other.

There are several messages which they can choose to support and sign off on, and later stick on the wall.

The messages include: “I will choose kindness”, “I will speak up if I see bullying”, “I will respect every player”, “I stand against bullying”, “I will help make badminton safe for everyone”.

There is also an awareness pamphlet that is given to everyone who signs on the wall with a strong message that reads: “BULLYING IS NOT PART OF THE GAME. PLAY HARD. BE KIND. LIFT OTHERS UP.”

“Some players when they win, they are inclined to bully others. It cannot be like this. The anti-bullying spirit is getting stronger, we can see it throughout society,” said Ng Chee Puong who is a parent attending the LCWC.

For Kieshen Sai Rao who is competing, the campaign hits home hard due to personal experience.

“This campaign is helpful for us. It helps people understand what is bullying,” said Kieshen, who has faced his fair share of abuse in the past.

LCWC founder Lee Chong Wei and Minister of Federal Territories Hannah Yeoh were among the VIPs who also signed on the wall.

There are 2,000 messages to complete all messages on the Anti-Bullying wall, and the organizers are on their way to ensure that everyone present supports this message.

Bullying among kids remains a massive problem in the country.

Last year alone, there were 3,000 bullying cases recorded in Malaysian government schools, with cases rising each year.
