\Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah have admitted they will need to dig into their reserves if they are to secure a place at the French Open semifinals as they face physical opponents next.
Tan-Thinaah are on a seven-match unbeaten run since they won the Super 750 Denmark Open title last week.
Of those seven matches, six of them were secured in straight games, including the second round 21-14, 22-20 victory against national team-mates Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting early Friday morning.
But post-match, the world number four admitted their unbeaten streak are taking a toll as they prepare to face Bulgarian sisters Gabriela-Stefani Stoeva in the quarter-finals.
“Physically we are not good. The shuttle is also slow in the arena, but it’s the same for everyone. We just have to adapt as quickly as possible.
“For our next match, we have to be patient. It will be challenging, especially in slow conditions. But we have to keep going,” they said.
Despite their lethargy, Tan-Thinaah are aware they will enter this match as clear favourites.
Not just due to their hot streak, but also the massive head-to-head advantage against the European siblings.
Tan-Thinaah have beaten the Stoeva sisters four times in five meetings, including the last three occasions.
All their victories also came in straight games, a feat they will hope to maintain.
Malaysia are guaranteed at least one place in the semi-finals as Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun face Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in an all-Malaysian men’s doubles clash.
Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin will aim to also reach the semis, but they must first overcome their bogey opponents and top seeds Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae.
