National sports analyst, Datuk Dr. Pekan Ramli, has urged fans not to blow the issue regarding national men’s doubles player, Soh Wooi Yik’s, Instagram status out of proportion.

For him, it is a common occurrence that should not be exaggerated. He hopes Wooi Yik remains focused and undisturbed as he faces challenges in the upcoming Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) and the Thomas Cup.

The brief change triggered heated speculation on social media, with some claiming it is a sign that the player might want to leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to go professional.

However, such claims are groundless considering Soh Wooi Yik is still under contract with BAM until 2028.

"If we look at our badminton players, once they reach a certain level, this is actually the next step for them," he told Astro Arena reporter, Faizal Bazari.

"It is a move towards settling down after being with BAM for so long.

"To me, it’s a normal thing and there’s no need for us to feel shocked or create a negative polemic that could disrupt our players' performance."
