Arctic Open champions Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King secured their place in the Denmark Open second round after coming-from-behind to seal a three-game victory on Wednesday.
Tai, who went viral on social media recently after hilariously changing his pose on the Arctic Open podium when his initial handshake went unreturned, secured the winning point in spectacular fashion.
Mainly marshalling the front court, Tai found himself at the back when a high return came his way, and the diminutive shuttler leaped to win the match through a powerful left-handed smash.
It capped a stunning comeback to ensure a 13-21, 21-18, 21-19 victory over South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk-Lee Jong-min.
Tai-Yap were only paired together at the Arctic Open last week, and have now remained unbeaten after six matches.
Incredibly, they only dropped their first game against Kang-Lee, having won all their matches last week in Finland in straight games.
Tai-Yap, who do not have a world ranking having just been paired, will face their biggest together when they take on national team-mates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the second round.
Chia-Soh, who are reunited again after a brief split, were also impressive in their 21-19, 14-21, 21-11 win over Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi.
