Denmark Open champions Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah not only ended an 18-year wait for a Malaysian women's success in this event, they also conquered their personal setbacks by finishing top of the podium on Sunday.
Tan-Thinaah cruised to a 21-18, 21-11 victory over Japanese pair Hinata Suzuki-Nao Yamakita to cap a wonderful week in Odense, Denmark.
It marked a steady progression in their form after claiming a bronze medal at the Asian Games earlier this month.
Both women had faced different challenges in recent months, but Tan was pleased to find the answer on Sunday with a dominant performance with her partner.
"We have been through good and bad things, but I am happy to go through all this with Thinaah. We are now on the podium. But we do not want to stop here, we want to keep doing better.
"Of course, the work doesn't stop. We will celebrate with a nice dinner, but we are playing in Paris next, and we prepare for that," the pair said.
Tan was referring to her back injury troubles this year which left her emotionally down, while Thinaah also dealt with the loss of her grandmother and pet dog.
But the pair, who have also emotionally relied for support in one another, have now ended a long-wait for a women's doubles title in this event since Chin We Hui-Wong Pei Tty did it in 2008.
This is also the world number five pair second title of 2026, following up to their Indonesia Masters title earlier this year.
Tan-Thinaah's victory means Malaysia have scored back-to-back titles in the European leg of the World Tour.
Last week, scratch men's doubles pair Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King won the Arctic Open in straight games.
