Chong Wei is fed up with shuttlers who break ABM hostel curfew

Lee Chong Wei has had it with national shuttlers who are breaking the rules at the Academy Badminton Malaysia by returning late at night.

The Malaysian legend, who is now directly involved with national association matters as its performance committee chairman, has warned of an ultimatum before punishment is served.

“There are still a few players who have yet to comply with the rule and we will issue a final warning letter if they continue to refuse. If they continue doing so, we will bring the matter to the council meeting to decide on the punishment.

“I will leave it to the council members to determine the appropriate action against players who refuse to stay at the hostel,” Lee told The Star.

Lee spoke after receiving reports and complaints of shuttlers flouting the hostel curfew.

The current ruling is for all unmarried shuttlers to stay at the hostel. The ones who are married are allowed to live outside.

The 43-year-old himself resided at the national headquarters hostel before he got married to fellow national shuttler Wong Mew Choo.

Even then, Lee was known to stay at the hostel during centralized training camps ahead of team competitions.

The national association council meeting, to be held on May 24 during the Malaysia Masters, is expected to decide on the type of punishment to the shuttlers who continue to defy the law.
