National men’s doubles ace Aaron Chia has given a straightforward suggestion to players who do not intend to stay at the national headquarters hostel: Go get yourself married.
“Rules are rules. If you stay at ABM (Academy Badminton Malaysia), then go married for example. As far as I know, other countries also have similar rules. In China, I think even married players have to stay at the hostel,” Chia told The Star.

The world number two was commenting on a discipline issue at the ABM, where several shuttlers are known to continuously break the curfew times and return late.
Some are also refusing to stay at the hostel, which is against the rules for players who are not married.
Lee Chong Wei, who is the national body’s performance committee chairman, has given a final warning for these shuttlers whom he said will be subject to a disciplinary action.
National doubles director Rexy Mainaky has also expressed his frustrations, saying that several shuttlers have not listened despite being cautioned on their behaviour several times.
The national body council meeting, taking place during next week’s Malaysia Masters, is expected to decide on the punishment to be given to players who continue to break the rules.
