7 top-tier podiums for Malaysian pairs on World Tour

ss

The first half of 2026 BWF World Tour season is almost over, and with that Stadium Astro recaps some of the Malaysian shuttlers who have made the podium in the top-tier events (Super 500 and above).

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (Finalists, Malaysia Open)

The first event of the year produced a dream final in the men’s doubles.

Chia-Soh faced South Koreans Seo Seung-jae-Kim Won-ho in a meeting of the world’s top two pairs.

The match went to the wire, with Seo-Kim prevailing in the end courtesy of a 21-15, 12-21, 21-18 win.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin (Champions, Indonesia Masters)

Goh-Izzuddin have reached three finals this year, and their rise to form this year kicked off in January in Indonesia.

The professional pair faced Indonesian pair Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin in the final at the Istora Senayan venue, but ended up winning the match comfortably.

Goh-Izzuddin disposed of their opponents in straight games 21-19, 21-13.

Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah (Champions, Indonesia Masters)

Tan-Thinaah did not even have to lift their racquets to secure this Super 500 silverware.

The world number two were scheduled to play new Japanese pair Arisa Igarashi-Miyu Takahashi, but were given a walkover after Takahashi could not compete due to a fever.

That win made up for the disappointment of Tan-Thinaah losing at the 2025 final in the same tournament.

Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei (Champions, Indonesia Masters)

This success would probably be Chen-Toh’s only victory this year, after Toh suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury last month.

The Malaysians will certainly savour this win, having come from behind to win.

They beat Danish pair Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje 15-21, 21-17, 21-11 to complete a remarkable day for Malaysia who secured three titles in this competition.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik(Finalists, All-England)

In a rematch of the Malaysia Open final, Chia-Soh once again faced Seo-Kim.

Hopes were high of the Malaysians finally winning this Super 1000 event after they won the first game.

But Seo-Kim, despite not being at their best, stormed back to win the next two games and complete the turnaround for the 18-21, 21-12, 21-19 win.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin (Finalists, Malaysia Masters)

Fans were optimistic Goh-Izzuddin would be able to retain the men’s doubles title won by Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun the year before, as the Malaysians faced Danes Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard in the final.

But it turned out to be a disappointing one-sided affair as the Danes nullified Goh-Izzuddin to win 21-16, 21-17.

The Malaysians simply could not find a way past a defensively solid Lundgaard-Vestergaard.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin (Champions, Indonesia Open)

Goh-Izzuddin would not be deterred after losing on home soil, as they went on to reach the Indonesia Open final just two weeks later.

They once again faced Indonesian pair Indra-Joaquin whom they had beaten to win the Indonesia Masters.

The home favourites won the first game and looked set to clinch the title with a 14-8 lead in the second game, but Goh-Izzuddin refused to buckle and produced one of the comebacks of the year.

They went on to win the match 13-21, 21-18, 21-10 and end a 18-year wait for a men’s doubles title in this prestigious event.
