Yan Yee fails SEA Games doping test

The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) confirmed that Malaysian diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee failed a doping test during the 2017 SEA Games.

The 24-year-old was tested positive for sibutramine, which is considered a prohibited in-competition substance under the World Anti-Doping Code.

Following the confirmation, Ng will be stripped of the two gold medals she won in the women's three-metre springboard individual and three-metre springboard synchronised event with Nur Dhabitah Sabri, and will be banned from all competitions for a maximum of two years.

"Yes, she is the athlete who failed to pass the A-Sample doping test, and we will hold a press conference on the matter soon," said ASUM secretary Mae Chan.

Meanwhile, Low Beng Choo, Secretary-General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), revealed that the B-Sample test done in New Delhi, India, also produced a positive result.

"The OCM have received a notice on the A- and B-Sample results and given it to the athlete," she said.

"The decision to make an appeal [for a lighter punishment] or not will be up to her."
