Wolves tame Tigers to hand leaders first defeat

Super League leaders Castleford Tigers were dealt their first defeat of the season as they slipped to a 24-10 loss at Warrington Wolves.

The Tigers have made a blistering start to the new campaign but were comfortably second best in a meeting of the last two beaten Grand Finalists.

Castleford remain top of the table despite seeing their run of four successive victories ended, but Warrington, defeated by Wigan Warriors in last season's showpiece, are now level on points at the summit.

Greg Eden put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute but Jake Mamo marked his first start of the season with a double as he crossed in the left-hand corner twice in the space of six minutes.

Jack Hughes added a third try to make it 16-4 at the break, with Stefan Ratchford knocking over a penalty and converting a Ben Murdoch-Masila try after the restart.

Greg Minikin's effort was little more than a consolation for Castleford, and just one point now separates them and Steve Price's men in the points difference column.

St Helens are the league's only remaining unbeaten side and can leapfrog both teams with victory over London Broncos on Friday.
