Song Ka Yeon – also known as Song Ga Yeon – is set to become the newest member of the prestigious Evolve Fight Team.
After undergoing an extensive two-week tryout, which included displaying her martial arts skills in front of Evolve MMA’s many world champion trainers in Singapore, the 22-year-old South Korean beauty has accepted an exclusive invitation to join the most decorated and experienced fight team in Asia.
Not only did Song impress those she trained with during the extensive tryout, she also caught the eye of Chatri Sityodtong, founder of Evolve MMA. In fact, he has high hopes for Song, and envisions her to be a decorated title holder, too.
“She has great balance and athleticism, and is also surprisingly powerful,” states Sityodtong. “Working with all the world champions at Evolve MMA will give her the best possible chance to succeed, and I predict she will be a world champion herself one day.”
Nicknamed “The Deadly Beauty,” Song is a highly accomplished martial artist who holds multiple black belts in an assortment of disciplines including judo, hapkido, and taekwondo. She also has experience in submission grappling, boxing, and Muay Thai.
The South Korean made her professional mixed martial arts debut in August 2014 as an atomweight in local promotion Road FC, where she had a successful showing by defeating Emi Yamamoto in the first round via TKO.
When not competing, Song remains active in the gym, and constantly improves upon her already formidable skills. That is something her nearly 42,000 Instagram followers can attest to.
However, before she was known as a budding martial arts superstar, Song earned celebrity status in the realm of reality television.
In 2014, she was cast on the inaugural season of Roommate, a hit South Korean reality show featuring a group of eleven celebrities living in a house together, with sixty cameras documenting the experience. Later that December, she appeared on the popular variety show Running Man, and went on to host season four of XTM’s Crying Fist.
Now, Song is set to continue her martial arts journey in Singapore’s Evolve MMA where she could earn as much as S$15,000 a month, including corporate housing and professional management. She will relocate to the Lion City to train under the careful eye of Evolve MMA’s many martial arts world champions, and sharpen her skills in a variety of disciplines.
After all, the Evolve Instructor Team is the largest and most experienced instructor team in Asia, including the likes of former Olympic wrestler Heath Sims, multiple-time Muay Thai world champion Orono Wor Petchpun, former WBC Flyweight Champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, and eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Michelle Nicolini.
The Evolve Fight Team includes a star-studded roster of world champions in its ranks, such as ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren, former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos, as well as former ONE Lightweight World Champion and Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki.
