The Bomba Fighters defeated PSM Mavericks in a Group B encounter on Thursday to advance to the promotion playoffs of the 2020 Sepak Takraw League (STL) Division 1 season.
Going into the game level on points with their final-day opponents in Group B, the Fighters, playing in the competition for the first time this year, maintained their composure to beat the Mavericks 2-1, including a dominating 21-7 win in the final set.
They join Group B leaders Putrajaya Cyborg, who made it three wins out of three by beating the Kedah Eagles 2-0, in Saturday's playoffs.
In Group A, the Terengganu Turtles failed in their quest of returning to the STL Premier at the first time of asking.
Needing a win for a small chance to go through, the depleted Turtles unfortunately crashed to a 0-2 loss to the Melaka Titans, who finished as Group A leaders.
Instead, the MASUM-UPM Knights, who finished outside the promotion playoffs last season, clinched the spot ahead of them with a 2-1 victory over the Perlis Vipers.
The two finalists of the promotion playoffs will play in the top division next season and qualify for the year-end Champions Cup.
