NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg insisted the 2018 finals series would not be affected by an investigation into alleged salary cap discrepancies at the Cronulla Sharks.
The NRL confirmed on Tuesday it was looking into the matter, which relates to third-party payments made to players, after the Sharks informed the league's integrity unit of their findings following a governance review instigated by the club.
Cronulla, who were crowned champions in 2016, have confirmed they are compliant with the salary cap for the current campaign, with the payments under scrutiny made in the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
Greenberg said the finals would not be impacted, given every NRL club was salary cap compliant this season.
"On the information available to us, every club in the NRL – and that includes the Sharks – are cap compliant for 2018," he told a news conference on Wednesday.
"In fact, the Sharks are significantly under the salary cap for this year and will remain so for the finals series.
"So, the 2018 finals series will not be affected by this investigation."
The Sharks have already booked a spot in this year's finals, sitting fourth in the table ahead of the last round.
