Malaysia successfully defended their SEA Games gold medal in men's polo after beating hosts Philippines in the final at the Miguel Romero Polo Field on Sunday.
Competing with a handicap of four to six, both Malaysia and Philippines advanced to the final with a record of two wins and one loss in the group stage, with the former losing to the latter 5-8.5.
The national squad of Amran Selamat, Tengku Ahmad Shazril Ezzani Tengku Suleiman, Rashid Hasnan and Syed Ahmad Saipulrudin Syed Mohammad ensured no repeat of the defeat and won 7-5.5.
Polo was held only for the fourth time in SEA Games history this year.
Malaysia memorably won in the five to eight handicap category on home soil in 2017 and featured former Malaysian sports and youth minister Khairy Jamaluddin among the players.
The polo action resumes in the zero to two handicap category on Tuesday.
