SEA Games: Gold medal clean sweep for Malaysian divers

Malaysia continued their dominance in diving events as they collected two more gold medals at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines on Saturday.

Ooi Tze Liang, who won a gold medal in the men's synchronised three-metre springboard with Chew Yiwei a day earlier, clinched his fourth straight SEA Games gold in men's three-metre springboard since 2011.

Collecting 454.60 points, he beat team-mate Puteh Muhammad (402.50 points) and Mark Lee Han Ming (325.50 points) to the gold medal.

Just like Ooi, Ng Yan Yee made it two gold medals out of two at the New Clark City Aquatics Center as she partnered Nur Dhabitah Sabri to win the women's synchronised three-metre springboard event.

The Malaysian pair (270.00 points) scored a higher point total than Singapore's Fong Kay Yian and Ashlee Tan Yi Xuan (232.86), who were promoted to gold in the same event after Ng's disqualification in 2017.

Their victory marked the conclusion of diving action at this year's SEA Games, as unlike the 2017 edition in Kuala Lumpur which had 13 diving events, the Philippines only had four.

It also meant Malaysia made their third clean sweep of gold medals in diving events in the past four editions.
