Jackie Wong Siew Cheer and Grace Wong Xiu Wei banished their 2019 disappointment after winning gold medals in the hammer throw event at the 2021 SEA Games.
Jackie registered 66.49m in the men's event at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, while Grace threw a distance of 57.30m.

Although they fell short of matching their national records of 68.22m and 62.48m respectively, it was good enough to see off challenges from their opponents.
The victories were also sweeter because both only managed to win silver three years ago in the Philippines as they failed to defend their 2017 gold medals, losing to Thailand's Kittipong Boonmawan and Mingkamon Koomphon back then.
This year, Boonmawan (64.54m) and Koomphon (50.28m) finished behind them to settle for silver.

Sadat Marzuki Ajisan made it a triple joy for Malaysia in the hammer throw department as he joined Jackie on the men's podium with a throw of 58.86m.
Jackie and Grace's achievements were Malaysia's 12th and 13th gold medal in Vietnam, meaning the national contingent reached the one-third mark of their gold medal target.
