Malaysian wushu exponent Clement Ting Su Wei scored the same points as Jowen Lim Si Wei in the men's Taolu Changquan event at the 2021 SEA Games but clinched the gold medal ahead of his Singaporean opponent.
Making his SEA Games debut this year, Ting wowed the judges to be awarded 9.70 points at the Cau Giay Gymnasium, edging ahead of Lim, who won the event in 2017, due to his routine's higher difficulty level.
With the victory, Ting also ended Singapore's seven-year dominance in the event

Fellow countryman Yeap Wai Kin, who had medal finishes in 2009 and 2017, narrowly missed out on joining Ting on the podium as he scored 9.68 points, just 0.01 fewer than bronze medal winner Seraf Naro Sirega of Indonesia.
On the same day, Tan Zhi Yan (men's Taolu Taijiquan) and Calvin Lee Wai Leong (men's Taolu Nandao) also bagged gold and silver respectively for the country.
In doing so, the Malaysian wushu contingent exceeded expectations as they targeted two medals regardless of colour.
Their achievements were Malaysia's 10th and 11th gold medal in Vietnam so far after the diving team made a clean sweep and national silat exponents Sazzlan Yuga and Taqiyuddin Hamid emerged victorious in the men's ganda event.
