St Helens left Wakefield Trinity with a 24-18 Super League victory on Sunday after being pushed all the way by their hosts.

The sides were level at 10-10 at half-time and 18-18 in the last 10 minutes, only for Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook to snatch the win for Saints in the closing stages.

Tommy Makinson crossed twice for Saints, while Morgan Knowles and Regan Grace also touched down for last season's League Leaders' Shield winners.

In the day's other fixture, Salford Red Devils cruised to a 24-0 victory over London Broncos.

The Broncos had enjoyed a 42-24 victory over Wakefield on the opening weekend but could not repeat that kind of heavy scoring at Salford.

The Red Devils led 6-0 at the break but raced clear in the second half, with Jackson Hastings contributing 12 points to their total.
