Sam Tomkins played a starring role as Catalans Dragons put an end to St Helens' 100 per cent Super League record on Saturday.

After losing 42-0 at Wigan Warriors last time out, the Dragons proved a far tougher proposition in front of their own fans in Perpignan, recording an impressive 18-10 triumph.

Tomkins scored a try and kicked three goals for the French club, who also handed Warrington their only defeat earlier in the season.

Dom Peyroux and Tommy Makinson crossed for first-half tries for Saints, but Tomkins - who had put in the kick for Fouad Yaha to touch down earlier - levelled the scores at 10-10 when a deflection helped him reach the line.

The former Wigan player slotted over a penalty early in the second half and the Dragons held firm in defence to retain their slender advantage through to the final five minutes.

Victory was secured when Tony Gigot reached Lucas Albert's grubber kick and got the try that put the game beyond Saints, who sit behind Warrington on points difference in second after nine games.
