Super League leaders St Helens made it seven wins on the spin with Danny Richardson's 78th-minute drop-goal clinching a 23-22 victory over Leeds Rhinos at Headingley.
The narrow win was enough to send the Saints eight points clear of second-placed Wigan Warriors, who play one of their two games in hand at Hull FC on Saturday.
After Jonny Lomax had a try chalked off for obstruction by Ben Barba, Tom Briscoe surged clear to give the Rhinos, who had nine senior players absent, the lead.
Lomax was not to be denied 10 minutes before half-time, though, as he added to Barba's score to send the visitors into the break ahead.
Briscoe and Mark Percival exchanged scores after the restart, but Mitch Garbutt and Brett Ferres crossed to give Leeds a six-point advantage with 10 minutes remaining.
Richardson converted Ryan Morgan's try before splitting the posts from 30 metres for the difference maker, inflicting a fifth straight defeat on the Rhinos.
Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants consolidated their place in the top eight with a 26-25 triumph over Catalans Dragons.
Jermaine McGillvary crossed twice as the Giants fought back from 18-0 down to claim an important victory.
